Shingle Types & Grades
Shingle types and grades determine look and cost when considering cedar shingles for siding. Here is a general description of the products offered by Finished Wood:
• 18" #1 Perfection- also known and "Blue Lable", this is the most popular product. The cedar is 100% clear cedar heartwood. No defects are found on this product. This is the best choice when wanting a natural finish and style.
• 18" #2 Perfection- also known as "Red Lable", this grade of shingle allows some mixed grain and small knots that only show in non-exposed areas. This is a more rustic look for natural stains and perfect for solid stains a primers.
• 18" #1 Perfection R&R- the R&R stands for rebutted and rejointed. #1 grade shingles are remilled for 90-degree angles at the butt. This makes for the cleanest and most desirable look.
• 18" Carolina Rustic R&R- using a mixed grade of rebutted and rejointed cedar shingles, the Carolina Rustic (CR) shingles show imperfections popular in the most rustic of style, but installed with ease with its square edges. The CR are also economical, great for primers and solid stains.
• 24" Handsplits- these are for the purists. This option represents how it was all started with varying thicknesses and textures. But don't plan on painting these. The majority is attractive heartwood.
